Fifty $2,000 scholarships, renewable for up to 2 years, are awarded each year upon successful completion of course work that leads to certification in certain skilled trades. These scholarships are prorated according to the number of UTUIA  members in each of seven Regions.  Winners are selected by random drawing at UTUIA headquarters overseen by an independent auditing firm.  The scholarship is effective January 1, 2023 for coursework completed in this year.

Eligibility

Applicant must :

  • be a US citizen
  • have completed a GED or High School Diploma
  • be age 25 or under
  • be associated with the UTUIA by either owning a UTUIA insurance policy or, by being the child or grandchild of a current UTUIA policyholder
  • have a UTUIA policy on the books no later than 12/31/2022
  • be enrolled in course work or received a letter of acceptance from an accredited Trade School to apply
  • show proof of satisfactory completion of course work and either received certification or that will lead to certification
  • apply no later than March 31, 2023
  • apply online at www.utuia.org

Awards

Trade Scholarships are awarded by chance, not grades however, successful completion of the coursework is required and proof of completion from the institution is required before awards are paid.  A UTUIA Trade Scholarship recipient is expected to maintain a satisfactory academic record to keep the scholarship for the full 2 years. Students who will complete coursework in 2024 are eligible even though enrollment may have been 2023.

Administration

The UTUIA Scholarship Committee decides whether individual scholarships should be continued or discontinued.  The day to day management of the scholarship program is handled through the office of the UTUIA Scholarship Administrator.
